How can I dispose of paint?
There are several options for proper disposal of paint:

According to Polk County, Household Hazardous Waste Collection (HHWs) poses risks to humans, wildlife, and the environment. These substances can contaminate water sources and should never be disposed of in the trash, poured down drains, storm sewers, or on the ground. Keep hazardous products out of reach of children and pets.
A common inquiry we receive is about proper paint disposal or whether paint cans can be put in a dumpster rental. Wet paint is not suitable for dumpster disposal, but empty paint cans can be placed in the dumpster. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at the North Central Landfill accepts paint from residential customers at no extra cost, with a yearly limit of 20 gallons.
If you prefer not to visit the landfill and want to dispose of wet paint cans in your garbage or dumpster, simply remove the lid and add sand, sawdust, or cat litter to absorb the paint. Once the paint is dry, leave the can uncovered in the garbage or dumpster.
It's as straightforward as that!
